Slovenia's president Mr. Danilo Tuerk on Tuesday visited Lake Bled, which hosts the upcoming Rowing World Cup this weekend and World Championships next year. He made sure that works in the Rowing Centre are well underway and that everything is on schedule. After meeting with the organising committee president Janez Bencina and other representatives from the organising committee he said that Slovenia is becoming one of leading countries in the sport of rowing with the modernisation of Bled Rowing Centre. He was also sure that this year's World Cup will be the best rehearsal for next year's World Championships.

After seeing the work done in Velika Zaka the president also visited Mala Zaka together with members of the organising committee, where he met Slovenian rowers, who will compete at the World Cup regatta this weekend. He wished all the best to all three crews and at the same time also spoke with all three presidents of the prior World Championships held in Bled from 1966, 1979 and 1989. The president stressed the importance of rowing, especially in the student sphere, what he also noticed himself during his long-term work in the United States. Rowing is seen a bit differently in Slovenia but it is sure worth of acknowledging such popularity of the sport also in our country, said Mr. Tuerk. He also expressed satisfaction of adaptive rowing taking part in the programme of the World Cup at Lake Bled for the first time in history of competition. According to Mr. Tuerk it is of great importance to support activities of people with special needs and ensure the best conditions for the development of the adaptive sport.

The visit resulted in an interesting experience and opinion exchange, partially due to the visit of prior presidents of organising committees of international competitions held in Bled. Also present were the president of the OC of the World Championships 1979 Janez Zemljaric and the OC president of the World Championships 1989 Vlado Klemencic. Beno Hvala, a radio reporter from the Rowing European Championships in Bled 1965, shared his views and knowledge in the field of radio and television. He was many times the director of radio and television broadcasts from various Championships held in Bled.
