Not a Good First Day Start for Slovenian Boats
28 May 2010

Slovenia finished the first day of Rowing World Cup in Bled with mixed feelings. None of the three Slovenian boats managed to qualify directly to finals and had to row additional races. Iztok Cop, who rows together with the Norwegian great Olaf Tufte under the Norwegian flag, won his double sculls qualifying group respectively. “We didn't row as one in the boat, actually it was quite a small catastrophe how off pace we both were. But nonetheless we managed to finish first, to row out the needed lengths for an easy finish. The conditions on the course were hard, but we know what to do in the future to be faster,” said Cop after the race.

The quadruple sculls with brothers Jan and Luka Spik, Andraz Krek and Gasper Fistravec was third in the qualifying group and is going to row in tomorrow's repechage. Only first two places were enough for a final qualification.

Coxless four with brothers Tomaz, Miha and Ziga Pirih together with Rok Kolander also missed final qualification with a fourth place in qualifying and should row in the afternoon's repechage but they canceled the race due to medical problems of Miha Pirih and will not compete at this year's first World Cup anymore.

The men's lightweight double sculls with Jure Cvet and Matevz Malesic crossed the finishing line as fifth in qualifying but managed to qualify for the Saturday's semifinals with second place in the repechage.
